| The specifics of many projects are proprietary and are guarded from theft by those who don't want to think for a living. Our main goal is integrating renewable energy and renewable agriculture into the small farm structure with the end result being an advantage to all on the planet except for the big guys like Cargill, ADM, General Mills etc. ADM(Archer Daniels Midland) may say that "We Feed The World", but who wants to eat that crap. I would rather say "We Feed Ourselves." With today's technology and a little bit of the old technology we can do this. The only obstacle is ourselves. |
| The first project for the public has undergone a very successful year. I am experimenting with growing crops such as tomatoes and peppers in quantity in the northern climate. Eventually I will work towards growing 5 organic acres of many of these crops and finding ways to harvest them by machinery specifically designed for the crop and small acreage. While living in California's San Joaquin Valley my house was in the middle of the vegetable growing areas. After observing million dollar harvesters designed to pick thousands of acres a year, I decided that I could make smaller ones that could pick lesser acreages for places like Minnesota. I decided to start a pick your own vegetable garden at the farm because of the vegetables that I am experimenting with. I actually started this several years ago and was starting to build a customer base but last year on July 10, 2008 we had a tornado go right over top of the garden. When all was over, the place looked as though a plant had never been planted there. This year however everything went well and I had many people stop by to pick their own tomatoes by the bushel at $15 a bushel. People were ecstatic.I also grew several different types of peppers, squash, broccoli etc. When customers found out that they could pick all of the green peppers they wanted for 25 cents a piece, they went nuts. Peppers are easy to freeze for winter use. Usually here in Minnesota the price of a green pepper will jump to $1.69/per. I was told by many doubters that no one would come out a pick because they are too lazy. Well, there are a lot of lazy people out there and I am not marketing to them. I am looking for the 1% that are not lazy. I started to see more and more bent over butts every day. As the price of food increases, there will only be about 2% of non-lazy people. After word got around that I have a Giant Roma, people were coming out of the wood work. Most customers said that they don't have time anymore to garden plus mine look so much better. After they find out that they are organic, (especially so cheap) they are even happier. Most customers also come out for one bushel of tomatoes and leave with 2, 3, or 4 bushels. Most also said that they will spread the word and be back next year. My advertising budget was $0.00. When something good is found, word of mouth works just fine. |
