The beginning of the Wind Farm Revolution. These are Fayette 95Kw turbines that were located in the Altamont Pass in California in the early 1980's. They have been considered junk long ago, but were a good learning experience and produced tons of electricity. I helped erect and design these and what we learned back then made it possible to build the giant turbines you see today. We also built a 400KW model that at the time were the largest privately owned turbines in the world. The Altamont Pass is located just east of San Francisco and was also the location of the infamous "Gimme Shelter" Rolling Stones concert in 1969(beside the point). The Altamont is the convergence of 3 valleys coming from the ocean. When the sun heats the air in the San Joaquin Valley, a vacuum is created which sucks the air in from the coast. 80 mph at times. Wind Energy is Solar Energy in a different form. Notice the Pot of Gold Rainbow in the second picture?
This is the McNeilus Wind Farm by Dodge Center Minnesota. I believe these are atleast 1megawatt each.
